Africazine:

A new wind farm project in Egypt aims to significantly boost renewable energy capacity.

A consortium of Orascom Construction, Engie, and Aeolus has signed a long-term power purchase agreement to develop a 900 MW wind farm near Ras Shokeir. This project will enhance the consortium’s total wind capacity in Egypt to approximately 1.8 GW, building on their existing 912 MW from two operational facilities.

Egypt’s Ambitious Renewable Energy Expansion

The new wind farm is part of Egypt’s strategy to diversify its energy mix and increase renewable energy production. Aeolus will hold a 40% stake in the project, while Engie and Orascom Construction will hold 35% and 25%, respectively. This ownership structure reflects a collaborative approach to advancing renewable energy initiatives in the country.

The project will follow a 25-year build-own-operate model, with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company serving as the sole offtaker. Orascom Construction will play a crucial role by managing engineering, procurement, and construction responsibilities, ensuring that key civil and electrical works are executed effectively.
