John Hughes, a 23-year-old filmmaker from Baltinglass, is making waves with his debut film, The Fuel of Youth.
After receiving funding from Creative Places Baltinglass, Hughes completed the film in December 2023. The movie has already gained recognition, being selected as a ‘monthly pick’ at the Prisma Film Awards 2026 in Rome.
Young Filmmaker’s Journey in Baltinglass
John Hughes co-founded Parkmore Studios and began his filmmaking journey at the age of 16. His passion for video production led him to complete a film and TV production training program in 2022. The Fuel of Youth, shot primarily in Baltinglass, features local actors and tells a poignant story about young adults coping with tragedy.
The film’s test screenings received positive feedback, boosting Hughes’s confidence as he showcased his work at the Powerscourt Edit. The presence of cast and crew during these screenings provided support, helping to ease his nerves.
