Travelers to Long Thanh International Airport will soon benefit from new bus routes designed to enhance accessibility and reduce travel costs.
Ho Chi Minh City is planning to introduce seven new bus routes linking major urban areas to Long Thanh Airport ahead of its June 2026 opening. The routes aim to facilitate easier transfers for passengers coming from various parts of the city.
New Bus Routes to Enhance Airport Access
The proposed bus routes are currently under study by the city’s Public Transport Management Center. These routes will connect Long Thanh Airport with significant economic hubs, ensuring that passengers have multiple options for reaching the airport.
Three of the routes will start from major transport interchanges, including Tan Son Nhat Airport, the new Eastern Bus Station, and the Saigon Bus Station. This setup will allow for seamless transfers between different modes of transport.
Additionally, two routes are planned from the former Binh Duong Province area and two from the former Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province area, both of which were integrated into Ho Chi Minh City last year.
Key Infrastructure Developments for Long Thanh Airport
Long Thanh Airport is a significant national infrastructure project, covering nearly 5,000 hectares with a total investment of about VND337 trillion (US.4 billion). Much of the necessary infrastructure to support bus services and public transport around the airport has already been established.
Officials indicate that the bus connections could be operational by the time the airport opens. Current access to the airport is limited, primarily relying on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway and National Highways 1 and 51.
Next Steps for Bus Route Implementation
- Finalizing route alignments and vehicle types.
- Determining whether operators will be selected through direct orders or competitive bidding.
- Coordinating with Dong Nai authorities to ensure timely implementation.
New bus routes will significantly improve access to Long Thanh International Airport.
