Namibia’s Digital Infrastructure Rollout Nears Completion by 2026/27

Namibia is on the brink of a digital education revolution.

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture is finalizing a nationwide digital infrastructure rollout, aiming for completion by the end of the 2026/27 financial year. This initiative includes establishing computer laboratories in six schools per region across all 14 regions and providing high-speed internet connectivity to 300 schools nationwide.

Namibia’s Digital Expansion in Education

The digital infrastructure rollout began last year, with foundational work to modernize classrooms initiated during the 2025/26 financial year. Education Minister Sanet Steenkamp highlighted the importance of completing these technology installations to meet the rising demand for digital learning tools.

These computer laboratories are designed to equip both learners and teachers with essential resources for a modern, knowledge-based economy. The ministry’s goal is to ensure equitable access to technology for students in both urban and rural communities.

High-Speed Internet Connectivity Progress

In tandem with the establishment of computer laboratories, the ministry is making strides in providing high-speed internet connectivity to schools. This connectivity is crucial for supporting the new curriculum and enhancing literacy and numeracy gains. The integration of reliable internet access with the new computer laboratories is expected to transform these schools into hubs of information and innovation.

Next Steps for Namibia’s Digital Initiative

  • Complete computer laboratories in all regions
  • Finalize high-speed internet connectivity at 300 schools
