In Lome, Togo, the Chinese embassy hosted over 500 guests for a reception on Monday, marking the Year of the Horse. Meanwhile, in Morocco, about 1,500 attendees gathered for a similar celebration at the Mohammed V Theater, emphasizing cultural exchange.

Togo’s Chinese New Year Reception Highlights Cultural Ties

The Chinese New Year reception in Lome was attended by notable figures, including Gilbert Houngbo, Togo’s former prime minister. The event celebrated the China-Africa Year of Cultural Exchange, featuring artistic performances and a promotional video of the CMG 2026 Spring Festival Gala.

Hunaké Kossiwi, president of the University of Lome, remarked on the significance of the Year of the Horse, symbolizing endurance and development. This reflects the perception of China as a key player in the global economy.

Morocco’s Celebration Emphasizes Friendship and Exchange

In Morocco, the Chinese New Year reception was held at the Mohammed V Theater, where Ambassador Yu Jinsong welcomed a diverse group of guests. The event included performances themed around the “Happy Spring Festival and Charming Silk Road,” enhancing the festive atmosphere.

Mohamed Khalil, president of the Morocco-China Friendship and Exchange Association, expressed wishes for prosperity and success in the Year of the Horse, reinforcing the cultural bonds between the two nations.
