Railway Management Board Proposes Upgrade for Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City Line

The Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City railway is set for a major upgrade, promising enhanced transport capabilities.

The Railway Management Board has proposed a plan to upgrade the railway, with an estimated investment of more than VND4.57 trillion (about 4 million). This project will span the entire north-south route, impacting 15 localities, including major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Investment Plan for Railway Upgrade Submitted

The Railway Management Board has submitted its upgrade plan to the Ministry of Construction. This initiative aims to enhance the railway’s infrastructure significantly. The total investment capital for this project is estimated at more than VND4.57 trillion (about 4 million).

The upgrade will cover the entire north-south route, which includes key localities such as Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Da Nang. This extensive reach highlights the project’s potential impact on regional connectivity.

Timeline for Construction and Approval

The investment policy for the railway upgrade is expected to be submitted for approval in the first quarter of 2026. Following approval, construction is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with a targeted completion date set for 2030.

Once completed, the upgrade is projected to significantly enhance the railway’s freight and passenger transport capacities, with increases of 1.3–1.5 times and 1.5–1.6 times, respectively.
