Contractors Vow Enhanced Holiday Travel on the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway!

Exciting Improvements on the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road: A Blessing for Motorists and Tourists This Festive Season

As Zimbabwe gears up for the bustling festive season, motorists and tourists can look forward to a significantly enhanced driving experience along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway. The ongoing rehabilitation project, which spans an impressive 435 kilometers, is being executed by various local contractors, ensuring that travelers will soon enjoy smoother and safer journeys.

Recent site visits organized by Africazine, showcased noteworthy progress on the upgrade. Contractors are working diligently on different sections of the highway, with promising reports emerging from the field. Arnold Mutungwazi, project manager for Syvern Pvt (Ltd), mentioned that the initial 5-kilometer stretch has already been opened for public travel, and additional sections are expected to be ready before the annual holiday shutdown. His team’s goal is to complete their segment by August 2026, ensuring that the highway achieves a state-of-the-art standard.

Meanwhile, Masimba Construction’s project manager, Blessing Nhau, indicated that they are on course to release a crucial 10-kilometer stretch within the next few weeks. Their efforts include meticulous pothole repairs across the highway, creating a more seamless driving experience as they work towards completing the project.

Kudakwashe Maguta from Fossil Contractors added that several finished sections will be made available for public use between the festive season and February 2026, reflecting a strong commitment to public accessibility. Additionally, Gerald Mutume, a project engineer at Tensor Systems, shared that completed sections will be incrementally released as the project progresses.

Beyond improving crucial commercial corridors, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development, represented by Permanent Secretary Joy Makumbe, emphasized the empowerment of local contractors through this project. “These are all local contractors, and they are becoming increasingly self-sufficient and equipped with essential machinery for road construction. We have the talent here, and we are harnessing that capability,” she stated.

The combination of completed sections and ongoing improvements is set to revolutionize travel between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, supporting both local tourism and commerce. As the festive season approaches, Zimbabwe’s commitment to infrastructure development underscores the importance of enhancing connectivity across the nation. Whether you’re planning a holiday road trip or a routine journey, now is the perfect time to explore what Zimbabwe has to offer, armed with the knowledge that the roads are better than ever.
