Alumni Unite: A Call for Togetherness and Collaboration!

Share

The vibrant community of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) alumni residing in Abuja recently gathered for an invigorating event aimed at fostering unity and support for their alma mater. In a heartfelt call to action, the president of the UNIMAID Alumni Forum Abuja chapter, Shettima Kukawa, encouraged fellow graduates to reconnect and actively participate in initiatives that benefit both the university and its students.

The event, dubbed “Re-Awakening 2.0,” took place during the forum’s 2025 quarterly networking walkout, which served as a platform to bring together graduates who have made a mark in various fields since completing their studies. Kukawa emphasized the importance of unity among alumni, stating, “We’re trying to bring our people together. It’s only when you achieve that that you’re able to make the necessary impact on the people, the university, and the students.” He highlighted the remarkable potential of the alumni network, yet acknowledged that many who graduated from UNIMAID in Abuja have yet to meet and collaborate.

Having recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, the university stands as a testament to educational excellence in Nigeria, though it faces challenges, particularly in alumni engagement. Kukawa pointed out that a significant hurdle has been the lack of participation from former students. “This is what we’re trying to do — create awareness about why this is important,” he said. By mobilizing alumni, the forum aims to cultivate a sense of community that can generate tangible benefits for both the graduates and the institution.

Participation in alumni associations can be invaluable. Not only does it foster connections and professional networking among members, but it also offers opportunities to contribute positively to the next generation of students. As graduates come together to share insights and resources, they can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of UNIMAID, paving the way for current and future students to thrive.

In a world increasingly driven by social connections, the call to action from the UNIMAID Alumni Forum serves as a reminder of the vital role that educational institutions play in our lives long after graduation. As the alumni step forward to enhance their engagement, it is hoped that this renewed commitment can spark a broader movement of cooperation and growth, benefiting the university and the academic community at large.

Stay tuned for more updates from the UNIMAID Alumni Forum and join the conversation about uplifting education and alumni participation!
