“Transforming Learning: How New Desks are Elevating Comfort for Students in Namitambo”

New Desks Transform Learning at Namitambo Primary School in Chiradzulu

Exciting news is coming out of Chiradzulu, Malawi, where learners at Namitambo Primary School are celebrating a significant improvement in their learning environment. The proud recipients of 84 brand-new desks, valued at K15 million, these students are finally saying goodbye to the discomfort of sitting on the floor. This generous donation, made by the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc, highlights the bank’s commitment to enhancing educational experiences through their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Why is this initiative so impactful? According to Chatsala, one of the teachers at the school, the lack of proper seating has often hindered students, particularly girls, from actively participating in class. “This donation is about restoring the dignity of learners,” Chatsala explained, emphasizing that with these new desks, students can sit comfortably and engage more freely during lessons. The improvement fosters not just a better learning environment but also encourages students to dream big about their futures.

Chiradzulu District Commissioner, Francis Matewele, echoed the importance of this donation, calling it timely and transformative. “I would like to thank National Bank, ‘The Bank of the Nation’, for this thoughtful contribution,” he said. The positive impact on junior classes has already begun, minimizing challenges faced by pupils who previously struggled to find adequate seating.

Namitambo Primary School’s Head Teacher, Charles Majawa, shared similar sentiments, noting that the new desks will be especially beneficial during examination periods. “Namitambo Zone is the largest examination center in Chiradzulu, and previously, many learners faced considerable challenges due to a lack of desks. This support has come at just the right time,” Majawa expressed.

With a total enrollment of 1,221 enthusiastic learners, the introduction of these desks marks a significant step not only toward improving educational conditions but also toward empowering the youth of Malawi. As this story illustrates, corporate responsibility can make a meaningful difference in communities, and with more initiatives like this, we can look forward to a brighter educational future for all.
