Rössing Uranium Invests in Community Development in Arandis
In an inspiring move showcasing corporate social responsibility, Rössing Uranium has pledged N.3 million (approximately ,000) towards the revitalization of the Arandis town hall and sports stadium. This generous donation marks a significant commitment to the local community, as the town hall, inaugurated by Rössing Uranium back in 1979, has long been a focal point for Arandis residents, although it has fallen into disrepair over the years.
At the handover event, Rössing Uranium’s General Manager for Human Capital, Safety, and Sustainability, Liezl Davies, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to nurturing the community that has flourished alongside the mine. “The historic successes of Rössing Uranium are deeply intertwined with the town of Arandis,” Davies remarked. She emphasized that the relationship with the local community is not one that requires permission; it’s a bond that naturally exists. “Today’s event is a powerful reminder that we are committed to supporting Namibia, and especially Arandis.”
Cecilie ||Hoabes, Chairperson of the Arandis Town Council Management Committee, expressed her gratitude for the contribution, highlighting the numerous benefits that the renovations will bring. “Through the renovation of our town hall, we will create a space that celebrates the richness of our cultural heritage,” ||Hoabes stated. This newly transformed venue aims to become a hub for local artists to showcase their talents, a platform for youth engagement in leadership programs, and a space for crucial community dialogues. “This revitalized space will serve as a beacon of hope and creativity, encouraging participation from all walks of life,” she added.
The construction project has been entrusted to NIMT Arandis, which is expected to complete both the town hall and the sports stadium renovations by December of this year. This initiative is not just about structural upgrades; it’s about fostering a sense of community pride and resilience.
Rössing Uranium’s active involvement in local development is a model for corporate engagement in Africa, showcasing how businesses can play a pivotal role in community strengthening. The potential for increased local engagement through these renovated spaces is immense, promising a brighter future for Arandis.
As this project unfolds, it underscores the importance of collaboration between corporations and communities, setting a benchmark for sustainable practices in the business landscape of Namibia and beyond.
