Peer Nutrition Advisors Expand Their Reach with New Instagram Page
In an exciting move to promote their diverse nutritional services, the Peer Nutrition Advisors (PNA) at Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences have launched a brand-new Instagram page! This initiative aims to increase awareness about the wealth of free nutrition advisement available to students, faculty, and staff.
Led by the enthusiastic Professor Stanley Wilfong, a senior lecturer in nutrition sciences, the team comprises six dedicated advisors, each bringing unique skills and perspectives to the table. Ashland, Ala., senior PNA Amiyah Smith shared that the advisement process starts with three personalized sessions to assess their clients’ nutritional needs. “We strive to cater to your schedule and interests, providing the guidance you seek,” Smith noted.
The motivation behind this Instagram page largely comes from St. Louis senior Reilly Brophy, who wanted to connect more effectively with students. “She was motivated by the life-changing feedback from her clients,” said fellow advisor Elise Ellis. “Her passion for nutrition is evident, and this platform will allow us to reach a wider audience.”
PNA advisors are bursting with creative content ideas for the Instagram page. Plans include engaging dining hall tours, “MythBusters”-style posts debunking common nutrition myths, seasonal nutrition tips, and even “day in the life” videos introducing each advisor to followers. “We are a diverse group with busy lives, yet nutrition unites us,” Ellis expressed.
The advisors possess specialized skills, such as cooking or fitness expertise. For instance, Bella Agostinho, a junior from Durban, South Africa, is known for her culinary creativity, often developing new recipes. “I love experimenting in the kitchen and adjusting recipes to create balanced meals,” she said.
Another member, Beaumont senior Izzy Darwin, finds joy in the educational aspect of nutrition. “I focus on addressing questions from my clients. If someone hears about a supplement, I enjoy providing science-backed information to help them make informed decisions,” she explained.
Paola Stackmann, a senior from Guatemala City, is equally passionate about integrating nutrition and fitness into everyday life. “I love exploring new activities to keep moving because it’s essential for everyone,” she shared.
Overall, the PNA experience resembles a supportive friendship, as Smith emphasizes, “We are dedicated to understanding our clients’ passions and needs, ensuring our advice is truly tailored to benefit them as individuals.”
For those in the community interested in exploring nutrition advisement, registration is open through the Robbins College website. Additionally, you can follow the journey of the advisors and get helpful tips by checking out their new Instagram page. “Our collective strengths and diversity make us the ideal support system for anyone seeking to enhance their nutrition journey,” Ellis said.
This initiative not only promotes healthy eating habits among students but also fosters a sense of community and connection around the importance of nutrition.
