“Exciting Developments Ahead: Key Agreement on Highway of Peace Set for Signing Tomorrow!”

Share

Exciting developments are on the horizon for Libya’s infrastructure with the highly anticipated signing ceremony for the construction of the Emsaad-Ras Jedir coastal highway, affectionately known as the “Highway of Peace.” This momentous event is set to take place in Tripoli tomorrow, with a guest appearance by Italy’s Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Giorgio Silli. The ceremony is organized by the Emsaad-Ras Jedir Motorway Authority (ERMA) and is under the esteemed patronage of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba.

What makes this project particularly significant is its aim to enhance connectivity across Libya. The upcoming contract signing not only marks the operational launch of the fourth section of this extensive road corridor—a 395 km stretch linking key coastal areas from Zuwara, all the way to Ras Jedir at the Tunisian border—but also symbolizes a robust partnership between Libya and Italy. This collaboration was solidified during the Italy-Libya Business Forum held in Tripoli, where the contract was awarded to Todini Costruzioni Generali for various sections, including the crucial sub-lots 4.2 and 4.3.

Subsection 4.3, which spans approximately 160 kilometers, represents the western terminal of this transformative highway. When completed, the highway will stretch a total of 1,750 kilometers and feature dual three-lane carriageways in each direction. This strategic infrastructure project aims to connect Libya’s major coastal hubs, paving the way for improved internal mobility and enhanced regional trade.

Expected to progress under the auspices of the Treaty of Friendship, Partnership, and Cooperation signed between Italy and Libya in 2008, this project underscores Italy’s commitment of billion toward infrastructure improvements in Libya, aimed at fostering economic growth and development with an annual investment until 2028.

Libyan sources emphasize that this initiative is a vital step towards modernizing the nation’s road network and will further strengthen economic cooperation between Libya and Italy. Already, the Libyan Council of Ministers has approved compensation for land expropriation necessary for the road’s construction, with funding entirely provided by the Government of National Unity (GNA).

This highway project reflects a renewed optimism and cooperative spirit between two Mediterranean nations, with hopes for a future that promotes economic prosperity and infrastructural modernization.

Stay tuned for further updates on this major development as Libya takes significant steps towards enhancing its transport infrastructure.
