A New Hope for Children in Algeria: Rehabilitation Center Launched by Türkiye's Ambassador's Wife
On November 8, 2025, Birsen Kucukyilmaz, the wife of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mucahit Kucukyilmaz, unveiled a beacon of hope in the southern Algerian region of Bin Talha. The newly established rehabilitation center for children with cerebral palsy is a testament to compassion and collaboration, reflecting the strong ties between Türkiye and Algeria.
The initiative was spearheaded by the Diplomatic Spouses Association in Algeria, showcasing how community efforts can lead to tangible changes in the lives of those in need. Financial support from Turkish companies operating in Algeria played a crucial role in bringing this vital project to fruition, demonstrating the generosity and solidarity that transcends borders.
Kucukyilmaz, who has a background in physiotherapy, expressed her excitement about the center, describing it as “the most important project” undertaken by the association. “As you know, these children and their families face very difficult conditions. Opening this center has been a long-standing dream of mine,” she stated. Her dedication is evident, as she also emphasized the desire to collaborate closely with Algerian partners to realize this vision.
The center aims to provide care for around 20 children with cerebral palsy every day. Mustafa Hiyati, head of the independent civil organization FOREM Association, highlighted the significance of this establishment not just for its medical services but also for the emotional support it promises to bring to families navigating the challenges of cerebral palsy.
One such family is that of Lamia Mebrebes, a mother of a 13-year-old with cerebral palsy. She conveyed her hopes for their future therapy, saying, “I hope our children will show at least 50% improvement through the physiotherapy services provided here.” This sentiment captures the heart of the community’s aspirations for healing and a better quality of life.
The launch of this rehabilitation center is more than just an opening; it’s a commitment to improving the lives of children and families facing difficult circumstances. It exemplifies a beautiful collaboration between nations, ultimately reflecting a shared goal—ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
With this new facility, Algeria continues to strengthen its commitment to healthcare and rehabilitation services, showcasing the power of international cooperation and the positive impact it can have on local communities.
