Amman Chamber of Commerce Reports Growth in Certificate of Origin Issuance
In an encouraging sign for Jordan’s trade sector, the Amman Chamber of Commerce has reported a 3.2% increase in the issuance of Certificates of Origin during the first ten months of 2025 compared to the same period last year. This statistic is a key indicator of the Kingdom’s growing export activity, reflecting a robust commitment to enhancing trade relationships within the Arab world and beyond.
From January to October 2025, a total of 34,688 Certificates of Origin were issued, up from 33,615 during the same timeframe in 2024. This small yet significant uptick signals the resilience of Jordan’s export market as it navigates a complex global trading environment.
Key Players in Jordan's Export Market
Interestingly, while the number of certificates increased, the overall value of goods exported under these certificates saw a slight decline of 6.5%, totaling JD 1.099 billion compared to JD 1.176 billion in the previous year. Despite this dip, Jordanian goods continue to find meaningful markets abroad, with Iraq leading the charge as the top importer of Jordanian products, accounting for approximately JD 484 million across 2,902 certificates. Following closely were Saudi Arabia with JD 93 million from 8,576 certificates, Egypt at JD 78 million from 859 certificates, the UAE with JD 69 million from 3,630 certificates, and Syria with JD 67 million across 2,962 certificates.
The diversity in the types of goods exported is noteworthy. The categories range from re-exported foreign goods valued at JD 553 million to industrial products at JD 199 million, agricultural products at JD 157 million, and Arab-origin goods at JD 95 million. This broad range highlights Jordan’s capability to cater to various market demands, reinforcing its strategic importance in regional trade.
Understanding Certificates of Origin
So, what exactly is a Certificate of Origin? It serves as an essential international trade document that affirms that the goods in a shipment were produced, manufactured, or processed in Jordan. Customs authorities utilize this documentation to determine tariff eligibility and confirm the country of origin, making it a vital component of international shipping.
The Amman Chamber of Commerce plays a pivotal role in this process, issuing certificates for a variety of Jordanian goods, including agricultural, industrial, and even re-exported foreign products. This is governed under specific laws designed to ensure seamless trade processes, further solidifying Jordan’s position as a reliable trade partner in the region.
As the export landscape continues to evolve, stakeholders and policymakers will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on these trends, eager to support the growth of Jordan’s economy through enhanced trade and commerce. The increase in Certificates of Origin issuance represents a positive direction, promising opportunities for businesses looking to expand their global reach.
