The Exciting Arrival of the New All-Electric Volvo EX60 in South Africa

Hot on the heels of its exciting EX30 Cross Country and flagship EX90, Volvo is set to unveil its newest gem: the all-electric EX60 SUV. This eagerly awaited model will make its global debut on January 21 during a live streaming event in Stockholm, Sweden. According to Volvo Car South Africa (VCSA), the EX60 is not just another electric vehicle; it’s a milestone in their mission to make electric luxury more accessible to the South African market.

Positioned between the popular XC40 Recharge and the luxurious EX90, the EX60 will play a vital role in enhancing Volvo’s growing electric SUV lineup. This move aligns with the increasing global demand for electric vehicles, especially in markets like South Africa, where interest in eco-friendly options continues to soar.

One of the most exciting features of the Volvo EX60 is its long-range capability. It is set to be the first model utilizing the company’s new technology platform, promising more range than any previous electric Volvo model. This is a game-changer for drivers who seek both luxury and practicality in their electric vehicles.

“Volvo EX60 signals the next chapter in our journey toward becoming a fully electric brand,” shared Grant Locke, the managing director at VCSA. He emphasized that the timing for the EX60’s introduction couldn’t be better as South Africa’s electric vehicle infrastructure is steadily improving, featuring more charging stations and a rising public awareness of electric vehicle benefits. This SUV is designed to meet the demands of local drivers while delivering the innovative technology and everyday practicality they expect.

Looking ahead, production of the EX60 is set to commence in Gothenburg, Sweden, during the first half of 2026, with local deliveries projected for the mid-to-late third quarter of that year. The launch of the EX60 falls in line with Volvo’s broader electrification strategy for the South African market, which will also include the introduction of the electric ES90 sedan in 2026, providing an array of options across various body styles and segments.

As Volvo aims for 90-100% of its global sales to comprise fully electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids by 2030, the EX60 represents a significant step forward in a sustainability-focused future.

With all these exciting developments, South African consumers can anticipate a new era of electric luxury and innovation on the roads.
