Exciting New Boxing Tournament Kicks Off: Get Ready to Rumble!

ZIMBABWE SET TO HOST HISTORIC TRABABLAS BOXING TOURNAMENT IN CHIVHU

In an exciting development for sports enthusiasts and boxing fans alike, Zimbabwe is poised to make history with the inaugural Trabablas Gloves On Tournament. Slated for November 1, this mega boxing event will take place at the picturesque Phil Jen Country Lodges in Chivhu, Mashonaland East, and it promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent and competitive spirit.

Organized by the renowned Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy, this unique tournament will feature 40 skilled boxers from various countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, and Zambia. It marks a significant stride towards promoting the sport of boxing on a regional scale, and it highlights Zimbabwe’s commitment to fostering sporting activities beyond its capital.

During the tournament launch at the Zimbabwe National Wrestling and Boxing Control Board offices, Charles Manyuchi, the former World Boxing Council Silver welterweight champion turned promoter, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming event. “This is the first of its kind here in Zimbabwe, with 20 bouts lined up for one night! We are thrilled to have boxers from different nations joining us,” he stated.

One notable aspect of the Trabablas tournament is its dedication to honoring the achievements of President Mnangagwa and his efforts towards sports development in the country. The initiative underscores the government’s vision of promoting sports as a viable career option, particularly for the youth, and aligns with the national effort to combat drug abuse through healthy engagements like boxing.

Constance Muchoni, a spokesperson for the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy, highlighted the importance of decentralization in sporting events. “This tournament is just the beginning; we plan to host future tournaments across all 10 provinces. Our aim is to inspire the youth and provide them with opportunities in sports,” she explained. The newly proposed boxing academy in Chivhu aims to further these objectives by nurturing local talent.

Among the talented participants is Aliyah Phiri, a former Africa Boxing Union Lightweight champion, who is set to thrill spectators with her boxing prowess. The event has garnered support from political figures as well, with Zanu PF Mashonaland East Political Commissar Lincoln Matare calling for increased recognition and support for boxing champions in the community.

As the date draws nearer, anticipation builds for what promises to be a landmark occasion in Zimbabwe’s sporting landscape. The Trabablas Gloves On Tournament is more than just a series of bouts; it’s a celebration of resilience, unity, and the spirit of champions.

Join us in cheering for the boxers and celebrating this momentous event in Zimbabwe’s sports calendar!
