Empowering the Future: The Launch of LEAD – A Pan-African Initiative to Transform Public Policy Leadership
RABAT – In an inspiring move towards fostering innovative leaders across Africa, the Africa CEO Forum has, in collaboration with esteemed partners like Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), officially launched LEAD, a groundbreaking pan-African programme aimed at nurturing the next generation of public policy leaders.
This initiative arrives at a time when Africa is experiencing a remarkable economic journey, marked by a consistent upward trajectory over the last two decades. While GDP figures are encouraging, the region is also confronting a complex reality: ongoing challenges in public service delivery that impact the day-to-day lives of its 1.4 billion citizens. LEAD is not just a response to this challenge; it’s a beacon of hope for sustainable economic transformation across the continent.
By targeting high-potential young civil servants, LEAD will equip participants with vital tools, knowledge, and connections necessary to meet Africa’s pressing governance needs. Each year, the programme will annually unite enthusiastic individuals from various countries, fostering collaboration on significant issues such as trade integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), advancements in climate adaptation strategies, regulation of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and enhancing regional security.
The inaugural cohort is set to convene at the beautiful UM6P campus in Rabat at the end of August. Here, they will collaborate with experts in the field and seasoned policymakers to devise strategies that resonate with Africa’s unique contexts while drawing insights from successful global governance experiences.
This ambitious programme is backed by a robust coalition of institutions that share a vision of strengthening governance across the continent, including BOAD, ARISE Foundation, African Reinsurance Corporation, and ASAFO & CO. Their collective efforts signal a promising commitment to usher in a new era of leadership that puts Africa on the map as a leader in innovative public policy.
As we look toward the future, the LEAD initiative not only inspires hope, but it also rekindles the belief that Africa has the potential to cultivate leaders who will champion sustainable development, improve public services, and ultimately enhance the quality of life for millions.
Stay tuned for updates on this remarkable journey as Africa sets the stage for a new generation of leaders, ready to take on the challenges of today and build a brighter tomorrow.
