“Exciting Leadership Change: New CEO and Board Take the Helm at National Ambulance Service!”

A New Era for Emergency Care: NAS Welcomes Fresh Leadership

In a significant move aimed at enhancing emergency medical services, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has officially inaugurated a new governing board for the National Ambulance Service (NAS), heralding the beginning of an inspiring chapter in Ghana’s healthcare system. The event, held in Accra, also marked the introduction of Dr. George Kojo Owusu as the NAS’s new Chief Executive Officer, positioning him at the helm of a service tasked with critical life-saving responsibilities.

The newly constituted 13-member board is the second of its kind since NAS was established, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the frameworks that govern emergency medical care in the country. During his address, Minister Akandoh expressed his confidence that the board would provide essential backing to NAS management, laying the groundwork for improved emergency care across Ghana.

“It is my fervent hope that the board will support the management of NAS in working together efficiently and effectively, thereby enhancing our emergency care services in the country,” he stated. This optimism underscores the transformative potential of the newly elected board and Dr. Owusu’s leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Owusu extended his gratitude to President John Mahama and Minister Akandoh for placing their trust in him and the governing board. His vision aligns with the mission of the NAS, which is dedicated to saving lives and delivering high-quality pre-hospital emergency care across Ghana.

The NAS has a remarkable history, having expanded significantly under the guidance of former CEO Dr. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah. From its humble beginnings with just seven stations in three regions back in 2004, the service has grown exponentially to 297 stations nationwide by the end of 2020, successfully bridging the gap in emergency services for all 275 constituencies.

As Ghana continues to evolve in its healthcare delivery systems, the new leadership at NAS inspires hope and progress. The enhanced commitment to emergency care is vital not just for individual well-being, but for the overall health landscape of the nation.

With this fresh leadership, alongside a robust supporting structure, NAS is poised to further its mission of excellence in pre-hospital emergency care. As communities await the positive impacts of these changes, it’s clear that Ghana is on a promising path towards superior health service coverage.
