 is putting the spotlight on its young and dynamic officers this Youth Month, highlighting their contributions to both the force and the community. Among them is the inspiring Constable Brooke Erin Fritz, a 26-year-old who is redefining what it means to serve and protect.</p>
<p>Constable Fritz, stationed at the Protection and Security Services (PSS) Static Unit at Parliament, isn’t just your everyday officer; she also serves as an ad hoc commercial diver with the Western Cape Water Policing and Diving Services. Her commitment to this role, which she’s embraced for the past four years, is nothing short of commendable. Originating from Kraaifontein and later moving to Gordon’s Bay, Brooke’s journey began at a young age. She demonstrated remarkable athletic prowess during her school years, earning provincial colours in both hockey and swimming, illustrating her drive and passion.</p>
<p>Her ambition to join the SAPS was clear after witnessing a group of brave divers save a drowning individual. With a heart full of determination, she applied to join the service right after completing her matric at Parel Vallei High School in 2016. While waiting for her appointment, she utilized her time working at Virgin Active, physically and mentally preparing for a career dedicated to public safety.</p>
<p>After successfully completing basic training at SAPS College in Oudtshoorn in 2018, she was assigned to her current position at Parliament. By 2021, she took a bold step towards her dream by applying to the Diving Unit, successfully completing all assessments. Her journey took an unexpected turn when her formal training at the SAPS Diving School in Pretoria was abruptly halted. However, exhibiting unparalleled resilience, she enrolled in an external diving institute and became a qualified commercial diver by 2025.</p>
<p>Now, as the youngest female diver and the only woman of colour on the Western Cape’s diving team, Constable Fritz stands as a beacon of inspiration for others. “If I can do it, you can do it. Don’t let setbacks or your environment discourage you. The Diving Unit is a family, and I’m honoured to be a part of such a specialized team with invaluable skills,” she emphasizes.</p>
<p>This Youth Month, as we celebrate the spirit and potential of South Africa’s youth, Constable Brooke Erin Fritz reminds us of the importance of perseverance and the strength found in community. </p>
