Ayawaso North's New MCE Pledges to Boost Sanitation and Revenue Generation
In a recent meeting filled with promise and optimism, Haruna Mohammed Awal, the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso North, laid out an ambitious agenda aimed at transforming the municipality into a hub of cleanliness and economic growth. Following his inauguration last Monday at the Municipal offices in Maamobi, Mr. Awal gathered heads of various departments to discuss the immediate steps needed to revamp the administration in one of Accra’s most vibrant districts.
One of his primary focuses is improving sanitation, which he described as critical for the health and well-being of the community. Awal expressed his vision of making Ayawaso North one of the cleanest areas in Greater Accra and urged his team to think outside the box. Recognizing the existing challenges in sanitation management, he called on Municipal Environmental Health Officer Richard Donkor to develop innovative strategies that could effectively address waste management and cleanliness.
In addition to sanitation, revenue generation is high on Mr. Awal’s list of priorities. During discussions with the finance officer, it became evident that the municipality’s low internally generated revenue (IGF) is tied to a lack of motivation and incentives for revenue collectors. The MCE emphasized that fostering a motivated workforce is essential and promised to implement measures that would not only boost morale but also enhance revenue collection efforts.
A significant part of Awal’s agenda involves infrastructure development. He assured the staff that plans are underway to alleviate the current office space constraints, with intentions to construct an additional floor within the next year. This move is set to promote a more efficient working environment, allowing staff to serve the citizens of Ayawaso North more effectively.
Awal also recognized the importance of empowering the youth in the community. He highlighted the national apprenticeship initiative recently unveiled by President Mahama, emphasizing it as a vital avenue for creating job opportunities within the constituency. In his call for collaboration, he encouraged staff to contribute ideas aimed at sustainable development and productivity improvements.
The leadership of Ayawaso North is ripe with potential under Mr. Awal’s stewardship, as he brings a renewed sense of hope and determination to the municipality. By focusing on sanitation, revenue mobilization, and youth empowerment, Mr. Awal is not just charting a course for the growth of Ayawaso North—he’s setting a shining example of proactive governance that many other regions can learn from.
Stay tuned as we continue to track the progress of Ayawaso North and its new MCE. The future looks bright, and the commitment to creating a cleaner, more prosperous community is undoubtedly a step in the right direction.
