Lagos Unveils Cutting-Edge Center to Elevate Aquaculture Innovations!

Lagos Begins Construction on Groundbreaking Aquaculture Centre of Excellence

Lagos, Nigeria — In an exciting development for food security and sustainable fish production, the Lagos State Government has officially kicked off construction of the Lagos Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (LACE) in Eredo, Epe. This ambitious project, a collaboration between the public sector and Dula Agro-Services, represents a significant investment in the state’s agricultural infrastructure and aims to revolutionize the aquaculture industry in Nigeria.

Spanning an impressive 35 hectares, the new centre is set to become a pivotal hub for fish production and development. Once operational, LACE is projected to produce around 50 million fish fingerlings annually. This impressive output will bolster the growth and productivity of approximately 5,000 smallholder farms across the state, providing a boost to local economies and improving food security for countless families.

Lagos State is already a leader in various sectors, and this strategic investment in aquaculture reflects a broader commitment to enhancing sustainable agricultural practices. The initiative aims at not just increasing fish production but also ensuring that small-scale farmers gain access to essential resources, training, and support. By equipping farmers with the tools they need to succeed, LACE hopes to stimulate job creation and foster a more resilient food system in Lagos.

Furthermore, the centre is expected to facilitate research and innovation in aquaculture techniques, leading to more efficient practices that can be adopted by other states in Nigeria. The collaboration between the government and Dula Agro-Services highlights the importance of partnerships in driving agricultural advancement and addressing the challenges of food insecurity.

This initiative comes at a crucial time as countries worldwide seek sustainable solutions to meet growing food demands. Lagos is positioning itself as a model for other African nations, showcasing how targeted investments and public-private partnerships can yield transformative results in the agricultural sector.

As LACE rises on the Epe landscape, it promises not just fish to the market but hope and prosperity for countless communities across Lagos State.
