Empowering Citizens: Guinea’s Alliance for a New Constitution Launches Awareness Campaign

Kaloum – May 16, 2024 – In an inspiring move towards civic engagement, the Alliance for a New Constitution (ANC), a prominent NGO in Guinea, is taking the helm to ensure citizens are informed about the upcoming administrative census (Ravec) and a proposed new constitution. This initiative is a testament to the organization’s commitment to empowering the residents of Kaloum, as they deploy over 121 trained agents across all 11 districts of the municipality for an extensive door-to-door campaign.

The administrative census is a pivotal tool for governments, allowing them to understand the demographic makeup of their population, ultimately leading to smarter resource allocation and more effective policy planning. By actively educating citizens about this crucial process, the ANC is fostering a culture of informed participation in governance.

On May 2, the ANC initiated training for its volunteers, focusing on the foundational concepts of citizenship and the importance of the census. “Our goal is to not only inform residents about the significance of the census but also to provide insights into the preliminary draft of the new constitution,” explained Mohamed Chérif, the general coordinator of the ANC. The training underscored the importance of engaging young people and women in this endeavor, creating a generation of informed citizens.

The community engagement strategy is methodical yet personal, as trained agents are tasked with directly interacting with families in Kaloum. This grassroots initiative aims to collect community aspirations regarding the new constitution, fostering a sense of ownership among citizens in their governance.

Interestingly, the ANC has incorporated digital technology into their campaign, enabling agents to use smartphones for data collection. This innovative approach not only enhances efficiency but also ensures real-time updates, making the entire process transparent and accessible.

As the ASN prepares to kickstart weekend campaigns starting at 8 a.m., they are optimistic about the turnout. “This is a deep-rooted action aimed at families,” Chérif emphasized, reiterating the significance of making information readily available to all citizens.

Community leaders like Namory Conté have echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing collective participation and the shared responsibility of informing each other about the proposed constitutional changes. The excitement and anticipation surrounding this initiative signal a positive shift towards greater civic engagement in Guinea.

With plans to expand this initiative to other municipalities across the Republic of Guinea, the ANC is poised to amplify its impact, fostering an environment where every citizen feels empowered to contribute to their nation’s governance.

As Guinea progresses on this journey, the involvement of its citizens stands at the forefront. For more updates, stay tuned to Africazine, your source for news and insights across Africa.
