In a heartwarming development in Malawi, the Muslim World League, in collaboration with First Lady Monica Chakwera’s Shaping Our Future Foundation, recently provided a life-changing boost to two widows by handing over two brand new homes valued at K46 million. This generous act took place in Chawala Village, nestled in Traditional Authority Chiseka within the Lilongwe District, and has undoubtedly uplifted the spirits of the local community.
The proud beneficiaries of this initiative are Lusiya Abiyere and Vilentina Jemitala, both of whom had endured challenging living conditions. During the handover ceremony, Muslim World League Southern Africa orphan coordinator Twaibu Mustafa Chindungwa expressed the organization’s commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals in Malawi. “We built the houses to improve the living conditions of these wonderful women who had been living in dilapidated shelters. It’s a privilege to finally hand the houses over to them,” he stated with enthusiasm.
Chindungwa further acknowledged the critical role played by the First Lady’s office in identifying individuals in need. “We were honored to respond to Madam Chakwera’s request. This collaboration is a testament to the positive changes we can achieve together, and we look forward to partnering on more projects that uplift our communities,” he added.
Michael Mkandawire, the executive director of the Shaping Our Future Foundation, shared his gratitude to the Muslim World League for their pivotal role in the project. He emphasized the foundation’s goal of empowering women in the community. “While we can’t build a house for every widow, our aim is to equip them with the skills and resources they need to create better lives for themselves,” he explained.
The support couldn’t have come at a more opportune time, with lilongwe District Council’s monitoring and evaluation officer, Blessings Makhiringa, noting that such initiatives are crucial for those who need it the most. Abiyere expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the new home, stating, “Now, I can sleep peacefully with my two grandchildren.”
This remarkable collaboration not only reflects the spirit of community support and empowerment but also sets a precedent for further initiatives aimed at uplifting the most vulnerable in society. As Malawi continues to emerge with a focus on sustainable development and community engagement, stories like these serve as a reminder of the impact of kindness and cooperation.
