Federal Government to Clear Wage Award Arrears for Workers
In a positive development for federal employees, the Nigerian government has announced plans to pay outstanding wage award arrears totaling N35,000 for five months. This news, which comes from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) based in Abuja, is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to many government workers who have been waiting for this compensation.
The OAGF explained in a recent statement that federal employees had already received portions of the wage award in the past, but several months of payments were still pending. The government will now roll out the outstanding amounts in monthly instalments of N35,000 over the next five months. This structured approach aims to ease the financial burden on workers while ensuring the government’s financial commitments are met responsibly.
According to a press release issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, the first instalment will be disbursed shortly after the salary payments for April 2025. “The wage award arrears will not be included with the April 2025 salary; it will come immediately after the salary is paid,” the OAGF clarified. This transparency in the payment process reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining open lines of communication with its employees.
Moreover, the OAGF reassured everyone that the Federal Government is keen on fulfilling its obligations regarding staff remuneration and welfare. This initiative not only aims to boost morale among federal employees but is also a significant step toward enhancing workplace productivity and overall efficiency across various sectors of government operations.
As the government works to address these arrears, employees are encouraged to remain hopeful and engaged. The move also demonstrates a progressive partnership between the government and its workforce, a step that many believe could lead to improved job satisfaction and productivity in the long term.
