Empowering Lives: A New Comprehensive Disability Support Center Set to Transform Oyo Community!

Oyo State Set to Unveil Nigeria's First Premier Disability Support Centre

In an exciting development for disability advocacy in Nigeria, the non-governmental organization, OAKonsult Disabilities Outreach, has announced plans to establish the nation’s very first world-class disability support centre in Oyo State. This groundbreaking initiative, named the Oak Centre Prime, aims to transform the landscape of disability care and inclusion in the country, enriching the lives of countless children and their families.

Projected to cost several million dollars, Oak Centre Prime will provide structured interventions for up to 1,000 children annually, offering services that include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language therapy—all under one roof. This holistic approach is a significant step forward in ensuring that children with disabilities in Nigeria receive comprehensive and specialized care tailored to their needs.

The expansive 35-acre site for the facility has been generously donated by the Oolo Community, illustrating the strong local support for this essential initiative. Initially seeking only 12.5 acres, OAKonsult’s growing momentum was met with overwhelming community engagement, leading to a more substantial allocation. At full capacity, the centre will feature residential care for 250 children, providing a nurturing environment that fosters growth and development.

At a recent press conference held in Lagos, Mrs. Adefunke Adeloye, the Chief Responsibility Officer of OAKonsult, shared her personal motivation for this venture, emphasizing the importance of establishing a robust support system for children with disabilities. “This is not merely a good-to-have; it is a must-have. We are committed to creating a world-class system that guarantees children with disabilities receive the care they rightfully deserve,” she stated passionately.

With a vision for a brighter future, Adeloye highlighted the socio-economic ripple effects of the project, predicting the creation of approximately 1,500 jobs at the facility. The centre is not just about healthcare; it will also serve as a vital training hub for caregivers and specialists, further bolstering the local economy while fulfilling essential community needs.

As OAKonsult Disabilities Outreach gears up for the next phase—securing the necessary funding—Adeloye called upon potential partners to recognize the urgency of this vision. “We need champions who understand that no contribution is too small when it comes to transforming the lives of thousands of children. Together, we can make a significant impact,” she urged.

This pioneering project is poised to serve as a beacon of hope and inclusivity, paving the way for a more equitable society where every child, regardless of their challenges, has the opportunity to thrive.
