The Admiralty University in Ibuzor, Delta State, is set to embark on a promising new chapter with the recent appointment of Professor Lucian O. Chukwu as its substantive vice-chancellor. This significant announcement was made on Saturday by Folasade Boriowo, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education.

After an extensive selection process held on February 26 and 27, 2025, the university’s governing council evaluated a slate of five highly qualified candidates. The candidates brought a wealth of experience and expertise from various fields, showcasing the academic prowess available within Nigeria. These included Sunny Iyuke, a leading expert in chemical and process engineering; Lawrence Omo-Aghoja, the esteemed provost of the College of Medicine, Delta State University; Ifeoma Ijeh, specializing in biochemistry; and Mr. Ogbogbo.

Professor Chukwu emerged as the top candidate, achieving an impressive score of 83.41%. His background as the current deputy vice-chancellor for management services at the University of Lagos, combined with his expertise in Marine Biology, positions him uniquely to advance the mission of Admiralty University.

In her statement, Ms. Boriowo emphasized the commitment of the federal government to uphold meritocracy in appointments. “In line with the principle of merit being upheld by the federal government, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has approved the appointment of Professor Lucian O.
