Lagos State Champions Traffic Safety Education with “Operation Catch Them Young”
In a proactive move to enhance road safety awareness among the youth, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has revitalized its “Operation Catch Them Young” initiative as part of the Lagos State School Traffic Safety Advocacy Programme. This program is designed to educate secondary school students about essential traffic regulations and safety protocols, ensuring that they develop responsible behaviors on the road from an early age.
In a recent announcement made by LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, it was revealed that the initiative involves engaging students across six educational districts every Wednesday. This weekly engagement serves as a platform for students to acquire vital knowledge about traffic signs and the importance of adhering to traffic rules, fostering a culture of safety within the community.
Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, emphasized the importance of instilling traffic consciousness in young minds. “Embedding this awareness is essential for nurturing a disciplined and law-abiding society,” he remarked. Giwa noted that the revitalization of the initiative underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to creating a safer, more organized transportation system. “By empowering students with critical traffic knowledge, we are shaping a future where adherence to road regulations becomes second nature.”
