Egyptian AI Startup Widebot Secures Million to Pioneer Arabic Language Model

Great news for the tech landscape in the Arab world! Egyptian artificial intelligence startup, Widebot, has successfully raised an impressive million in pre-Series A funding. This financial boost is set to accelerate the development of their groundbreaking project, the Arabic large language model (LLM) known as “AQL Mind.”

Widebot, initially founded in the vibrant city of Cairo, has gracefully transitioned its base of operations to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This strategic move highlights the burgeoning tech ecosystem in the region as Widebot aims to revolutionize the way Arabic language processing is approached. The AQL Mind model is designed with a specific focus on comprehending the diverse and intricate tapestry of Arabic dialects and accents, catering to the linguistic needs of millions across the Middle East and North Africa.

CEO and co-founder Mohammed Nabil expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “AQL Mind will empower us to deliver precise, secure, and personalized AI experiences tailored specifically for Saudi government entities and businesses.” This initiative is particularly timely, as more organizations seek to harness the power of AI to enhance customer service and operational efficiency.

The funding round was led by Keheilan Asset Management II, with significant backing from Saudi investment powerhouse Wafra. Other notable participants included Enza Capital, DisrupTech Ventures, LoftyInc Capital, Den VC, and SparkLabs Ventures. This strong coalition of investors underscores the high level of confidence in Widebot’s vision and the emerging tech scene in the region.

Dr. Ahmed Abdelhamid, CEO of Keheilan Asset Management, added, “We firmly believe that the future of economic development in the region hinges on supporting deep technology companies. The synergy between technical and financial efforts will reinforce national sovereignty over our technological infrastructure.” This collaboration promises to lay a strong foundation for the future of technology in the Arab world.

As Widebot embarks on this exciting journey, the implications for AI’s role in the region are profound. This initiative not only enhances linguistic diversity in AI development but also positions the Middle East as a vital player in the global tech arena.

Stay tuned for more updates on this innovative venture and its impact on the Arab-speaking market!
