
Coronado High School Swim Team Starts Strong With Western League Relays
The Coronado High School swim team has dived headfirst into their competitive season with energy and enthusiasm, kicking things off at the highly anticipated Western League Relays held recently at La Jolla High School. Known for its spirited atmosphere, this annual meet allows teams to transform traditional individual swim events into exciting relays, showcasing teamwork and strategy.
The Islanders got off to an impressive start, shining especially brightly in the boys’ 200 individual medley relay. The high point of the event was a thrilling comeback from Luca Morocco, who made a spectacular move during the final freestyle leg to clinch first place. Adding to this momentum, the boys also triumphed in the 100 butterfly relay, with Gage Everitt delivering an electrifying finish that left the crowd cheering.
On the girls’ side of the pool, Coronado swimmers showcased their skills as well. They achieved commendable second-place finishes in both the 200 individual medley relay and the wild card relay, with Chloe Quarles anchoring each team, highlighting her versatility and competitive spirit. This season opener promises excitement, setting the stage for what could be a remarkable season ahead for the Islanders.
Duel Meet Dominance Against Scripps Ranch Falcons: A Testament to Team Spirit
In their first duel meet at the BBMAC against the Scripps Ranch Falcons, the Coronado High swim team continued their impressive run, showcasing both talent and teamwork despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions. The girls secured a 91-57 victory, while the boys dominated with a score of 112-59, marking a solid start to their campaign.
The standout performers included senior captain Chloe Quarles and junior sensation Gage Everitt, who not only clinched victories in their individual races – the 200 IM and the 100 fly, respectively – but also played crucial roles in the 200 Medley relay, where the boys triumphed and the girls finished a commendable second.
The contributions didn’t stop there; senior Ally Fabrey shone in the 200 free, while Jillian Stachowicz impressed with a stellar performance in the 500 free. The girls’ squad further celebrated victory in the 200 Free relay, a testament to their collective effort and synergy with strong performances from teammates Kailyn Cornell, Ellie White, and Bella Zazueta.
In a superb display of speed, Andre Poole and Liam Knapp clinched victories for the boys in the 50 freestyle and the 100 free, respectively. Their efforts, joined by teammates Van Marniacs and Reed Karosich, propelled the boys to a winning finish in the 200 Free relay. Additionally, Russell Richardson and Cedrick Tolentino added to the Islanders’ tally with victories in the 100 backstroke and the 500 free.
As the team prepares to take on Bishops in an upcoming meet on Friday, March 21st at 3:30 p.m., the enthusiasm and competitiveness displayed thus far promise a thrilling season ahead.
