Midnight Sun Mining Unveils Ambitious 2025 Exploration Plans for Zambia's Dumbwa Target
In an exciting turn of events for the mining sector, Midnight Sun Mining Corp. has announced the cancellation of its earn-in agreement with KoBold Metals, which allows them to retain full ownership of the highly prospective Dumbwa Target in Zambia. This decision reinforces Midnight Sun’s commitment to exploring one of Africa’s most promising copper-rich regions, the Solwezi Project, where the Dumbwa Target stands out as a key focal point.
Dumbwa is no ordinary mining target. Spanning an impressive 20 kilometers, this high-grade copper-in-soil anomaly is seen as a potential gem for copper discovery, sitting just a stone’s throw away from Barrick Gold’s renowned Lumwana Mine. Known for its billion-tonne copper resources, Lumwana has recently embarked on a significant feasibility study aimed at doubling its annual production—making the surrounding area ripe for exploration.
Midnight Sun is gearing up for an extensive exploration program in 2025 under the experienced guidance of COO Dr. Kevin Bonel, a former architect of the Lumwana expansion. “For 13 years, we have explored our vast land package, making significant discoveries of both high-grade oxide copper near the surface and high-grade sulfide copper at depth—ensuring our position as a leading player in this strategic region,” stated Al Fabbro, President & CEO of Midnight Sun. His passion for the project is evident as he highlights the unique potential of the Domes Region in Zambia, a global hotspot for copper mining.
Dumbwa possesses characteristics that have historically led to successful mining projects, according to Dr. Bonel. “This is as good as it gets in the Zambian Copper Belt,” he affirmed. With geological elements that align perfectly with those found at Lumwana, the likelihood of a major discovery is heightened. The unique mineralization and expansive geological features of Dumbwa provide a substantial opportunity for Midnight Sun.
Looking ahead, the exploration team plans to kick off the 2025 endeavors with a comprehensive Induced Polarization (IP) survey, aimed at identifying the precise layout of mineralized units beneath the surface. Following this, targeted drilling will confirm the lateral extension of the copper mineralization tied to the soil anomaly—a significant step in charting out what could be a large-tonnage copper deposit.
The excitement doesn’t stop there—the results of the geological mapping and IP survey are expected to guide follow-up drilling, further illustrating the promising potential of the Dumbwa Target. With drilling set to commence shortly after the surveys’ completion in Q2 of 2025, the stage is set for what could be a pivotal chapter in Zambia’s copper mining narrative.
As Midnight Sun Mining continues to solidify its position in this mineral-rich landscape, it exemplifies the robust exploration spirit that other mining endeavors can look to emulate. With the combination of experienced leadership, a strategic exploration plan, and the fertile grounds of the Zambian Copper Belt, the future looks bright for Midnight Sun.
