Meet Pieter Boy: A Passionate Educator on a Mission to Inspire at Selcourt Primary
In the vibrant community of Brakpan, one educator is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of students at Selcourt Primary School. Meet 54-year-old Pieter Boy, who is not just stepping into the role of deputy principal but is also bringing years of rich teaching experience and a heartfelt dedication to education.
Pieter’s journey in education began in Rustenburg, where he completed his early schooling at Grenswag High School in 1988 before pursuing a Diploma in Higher Education at the NKP College of Education. His teaching career launched shortly after graduation when he took up a temporary position at Laerskool Generaal Andries Brink in Pretoria. Here, he honed his skills, quickly realizing that his true calling lay in the classroom.
In 1995, Pieter made the move to Brakpan, where he joined Laerskool Kommando and spent six successful years before transitioning to Laerskool Brakpan-Oos. There, he taught for an impressive 14 years. For the past decade, he has been a cherished teacher at Selcourt Primary, where he has also served as the head of the Afrikaans department for grades four to seven.
Reflecting on his journey, Pieter shares, “Teaching has always been my passion. The opportunity to influence the lives of young children and guide them to become their best selves is incredibly fulfilling. There’s nothing quite like when former students approach me, crediting their success to the lessons they learned in my class.”
As he approaches his official title of deputy principal on April 1, Pieter is enthusiastic about the role. He sees it not only as a dream realized but also as a platform to effect positive change. “I aspire to be that deputy principal who makes a noticeable difference for both educators and students alike, supporting and collaborating with the principal throughout our journey together,” he explains.
Pieter’s unwavering enthusiasm and commitment to nurturing young minds highlight the vital role educators play in shaping future generations. His story serves as an inspiring reminder of how dedicated teachers can leave a lasting legacy, fostering a love for learning and a drive for success among their students.
As the school community looks forward to April, the anticipation to see Pieter’s vision come to life is palpable. His commitment to education embodies the spirit of growth and positivity that resonates throughout Brakpan and beyond.
