Namibia Suspends Face Mask Usage Amid Health Concerns: What You Need to Know!

Health Ministry Issues Recall of Facial Scrub Amid Quality Concerns

In a proactive move to ensure consumer safety, the Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced the recall of a facial scrub manufactured by Fabupharm in Otjiwarongo. This action comes after the ministry received several quality complaints from users, prompting an immediate review of the product in question.

The scrub in focus is the chlorhexidine 4% 20L, commonly used in various healthcare settings. According to Barnabas Iitula, the deputy director of operations at the Ministry of Health, the recall was triggered on January 16 when numerous end-users reported issues. Notably, complaints mentioned the scrub’s unusual light pink color and the formation of sediment that affects its application, with users finding that it does not produce the expected foam.

Specific Batches Affected

The recall specifically targets certain batch numbers: 2402092R, 2401144R, and 241138, all sold under the brand name chlorhexidine 4% Scrub 20L (stock code 0620486). However, Iitula emphasized that any other batches exhibiting similar issues would also be recalled to ensure thoroughness in addressing the concerns.

In his statement, Iitula urged all healthcare facilities to immediately halt the use of the affected scrub and return all stock to the Central Medical Store by the deadline of Thursday, February 26. Adherence to this deadline is critical, given the complexities involved in reverse logistics—a process that ensures products are tracked and managed as they are returned to the supplier.

Importance of Consumer Safety

Walter Kamaya, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Social Services, highlighted the importance of consumer safety, stating that no returned stock will be accepted after the closing date. This diligent response underscores the ministry’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards in healthcare products.

This recall serves as a reminder of the crucial role regulatory bodies play in safeguarding public health. By acting decisively to address quality concerns, the Ministry of Health not only protects users but also reinforces public trust in healthcare products and services.
