Lagos Unveils Eko Learners’ Program to Enhance Student Success in WAEC and NECO Exams!

By Sodiq Adelakun

In a significant stride towards enhancing the educational landscape, Lagos State has officially launched an innovative program designed to help students excel in their crucial external examinations. This initiative, known as “Eko Learners’ Support,” was revealed on January 14, 2025, at the Education Resource Centre in Lagos, with Education Commissioner Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun at the helm of the unveiling ceremony.

Highlighting the transformative nature of this program, Alli-Balogun remarked that it is tailored to furnish students with vital resources for success in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) assessments. The initiative aims to cultivate a learning environment that empowers students, fostering both academic and personal development.

“Eko Learners’ Support” offers a robust curriculum featuring 320 broadcast lessons spanning ten key subjects. Students can expect to see comprehensive content across disciplines including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Government, History, Literature-in-English, and Yoruba. This diverse array of lessons will be delivered by seasoned educators selected through a meticulous vetting process by the state government.

To ensure accessibility and engagement, these lessons won’t just be limited to traditional broadcasting. They’ll be available on various platforms, including Lagos Television and popular social media like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), allowing students the flexibility to learn at their own pace and revisit complex topics as needed.

“The Eko Learners’ Support program is more than just a set of academic resources; it’s an invitation for students to engage deeply with learning materials,” Alli-Balogun emphasized during the launch. By incorporating interactive elements, the program encourages students to provide feedback, pose questions, and collaborate with their peers and educators.

This initiative is part of Lagos State’s broader commitment to educational excellence, mirroring the successes seen in previous programs like EKOEXCEL, which has earned both national and international acclaim for its innovative reforms in education.

In his closing remarks, Alli-Balogun urged students to seize this opportunity and dedicate themselves to their studies. He emphasized that the path to success is paved with hard work, commitment, and a thirst for knowledge. “Education is a lifelong journey,” he said, reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s steadfast support for students’ academic and personal growth.

As Lagos rolls out this forward-thinking program, it sets a new standard for educational initiatives across Nigeria, promoting a culture of excellence and proactive learning within its student community.
