ZIMSEC Advanced Level Results: A Moment of Achievement for Zimbabwean Students
In an inspiring development for Zimbabwe’s education sector, the 2024 Advanced Level results from the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) have been officially released, showcasing the determination and resilience of the nation’s students. The announcement was made during a press conference led by ZIMSEC Chairperson, Professor Paul Mapfumo, on a vibrant Friday in Harare.
This year, a remarkable 94% of students who took at least two subjects successfully passed their examinations. With a total of 33,585 candidates participating in the November 2024 examinations, this year saw a slight decrease compared to 2023, which had 34,427 candidates—a change of just 2.47%. However, this minor drop does not overshadow the remarkable achievements of the students who took their exams this year.
Professor Mapfumo highlighted the impressive pass rates: “For those who wrote two or more subjects, 31,443 candidates obtained Grade E or better, yielding a commendable 94.58% pass rate. Among the school candidates, a total of 29,041 participated, while 28,900 wrote two or more subjects. Out of these, an exceptional 27,509 students passed, achieving an impressive 95.18% overall pass rate.”
Diving deeper into the gender dynamics of the results, female candidates emerged as leaders in academic performance this year. A total of 17,306 female students sat for the November 2025 Advanced Level examinations, a noticeable increase from 15,504 in the previous year. Of these, 16,457 succeeded in passing two or more subjects, translating to a stellar pass rate of 95.94%. In contrast, the 16,092 male candidates had a pass rate of 92.32%. This directly reflects a 2.81% advantage for female candidates, emphasizing the ongoing shift towards gender equity in education.
Access to results has also been enhanced. All candidates can view their results online through the ZIMSEC portal, making it easier for students across the country to celebrate their accomplishments.
The improved results not only reflect academic excellence but also the broader commitment to education in Zimbabwe, with many students now poised to further their studies or enter the job market with confidence.
