Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux, has joined forces with the B4i Academy to champion a transformative initiative aimed at empowering people living with disabilities. This exciting partnership is set to provide educational opportunities through learnership programs specifically designed for individuals who often face significant barriers in accessing education and employment.
The goal of these learnerships is not only to develop vital skills but also to ensure that quality and accessibility are at the forefront. Le Roux, who is passionate about inclusion, expressed her commitment to making a difference: “I am honored to partner with the B4i Academy to make a difference in the lives of those who often face significant barriers. This initiative is a step towards a more inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, has access to opportunities for success.”
The initiative is part of Le Roux’s advocacy campaign, the Mia Le Roux Movement, which raises awareness about the estimated four million deaf individuals in South Africa and addresses various forms of exclusion. By focusing on education, the partnership aims to create pathways to dignity, independence, and meaningful economic participation.
The pilot program began in October and has successfully facilitated 120 learnerships, made possible by a substantial investment from Group Elephant. This commitment to upliftment reflects the company’s visionary approach to social responsibility. Yolandi Venter, CEO of the B4i Academy, stated, “At the B4i Academy, we believe in the transformative power of education to unlock potential and create opportunities for all. Our collaboration with Le Roux signifies our steadfast commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.”
As part of this initiative, the first public learnership campaign was officially launched, with applications opening from February 1 and closing on February 28, 2025, at 6 PM. Interested candidates can apply through the Miss South Africa website, the B4i Project’s website, or the Miss South Africa App.
This collaboration is more than just a campaign; it’s a movement aimed at breaking down barriers and uplifting communities. By ensuring that individuals with disabilities have access to the necessary training and skills, this initiative sets a precedent for future educational opportunities in South Africa. Join us in celebrating this essential step towards inclusivity and empowerment!
