“Calling All Former Students: It’s Time to Repay Your Education Loans!”

The Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) is calling on former beneficiaries to step up and settle their study loans, a move aimed at supporting future generations of students needing financial help. Kennedy Kandume, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of NSFAF, emphasized the importance of responsibly managing the funds that power the support system for countless students across Namibia.

In an engaging announcement, Kandume pointed out that many people misconstrue the intentions of NSFAF’s repayment request. Contrary to popular belief, the organization is not demanding current students to repay their loans while they are still in school. Instead, it’s primarily former beneficiaries—those who have completed their studies—who are being encouraged to fulfill their financial commitments. “Once you complete your studies, you’re expected to pay back the loans. This cycle of repayment enables NSFAF to assist new students seeking financial aid,” he explained.

Kandume further elaborated on the ideal functioning of the fund: “The essence of NSFAF is to operate as an evolving fund. The revenue collected from loan repayments is reinvested to offer support and financial assistance to the next cohort of students. Over the years, we have made significant strides in recovering loans, but the percentage currently repaid falls short of what is needed to fund new admissions,” he noted. This means that ensuring timely loan repayments is crucial for the sustainability of student financial assistance in Namibia.

Former beneficiaries, especially those in professional roles such as teachers, judges, and even government ministers, have a unique responsibility to contribute back to the system. Each repayment not only helps maintain the fund but can also transform the educational landscape of Namibia, enabling new students to follow their dreams without financial barriers.

In conclusion, the call for repayments is not just a fiscal request; it’s a reminder of the collective effort needed to enhance education accessibility in Namibia. As the country continues to invest in the education of its youth, every bit of support makes a difference. So, to all former NSFAF beneficiaries, this is an opportunity to give back, ensuring that future generations also have the resources they need to achieve their academic ambitions.
