Ho Chi Minh City is set to enhance its adventure tourism with new paragliding initiatives at La Ban Peak.

On July 31, the Tan Hai Ward People’s Committee and the Paragliding and Sport Kite Federation conducted successful experimental flights at La Ban Peak. A pilot completed a nearly 20-minute unpowered flight, landing safely about 400 meters from the launch point, meeting all technical and safety standards.

Successful Experimental Flights at La Ban Peak

The experimental flights at La Ban Peak showcased the potential for unpowered paragliding in Ho Chi Minh City. After careful analysis of meteorological conditions, the pilot took off and enjoyed a smooth flight over the lush terrain of Dinh Mountain. The landing was executed flawlessly, demonstrating the area’s suitability for this sport.

Following the unpowered flight, the survey team moved to Tan Hoa Stadium for powered paragliding operations. The pilot conducted multiple circuits to assess flight performance and navigation capabilities, landing safely after evaluating airspace conditions.

Infrastructure Development for Paragliding

Mr. Lam Quang Quy, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Paragliding and Sport Kite Federation, highlighted the favorable conditions at La Ban Peak. The area boasts open terrain and stable wind patterns, making it ideal for the sport. Plans are underway to develop a larger takeoff area and improve infrastructure for training and competitions.

Once the necessary technical infrastructure and safety protocols are established, La Ban Peak will be proposed as a venue for national-level paragliding competitions, with aspirations for international events in the future.

Next Steps for Paragliding Initiatives

  • Collaborate with the Tan Hai Ward People’s Committee on infrastructure development.
  • Study the creation of a larger takeoff area.
