Celebrating Excellence: SRWB’s Award Ceremony Highlights Commitment to Growth and Employee Recognition

The Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) is embarking on an exciting journey of increased productivity and growth, and the recent awards ceremony celebrating the contributions of its dedicated staff is a monumental first step in that direction. This event, joyful and inspirational, was presided over by outgoing Board Chairperson Brown Mpinganjira and served to recognize employees at all levels for their hard work and achievements. The recognition of staff at SRWB is not just a matter of pride; it is expected to significantly uplift morale and motivation and, ultimately, drive business growth while maintaining high standards of service delivery.

In a remarkable display of achievement, SRWB recently clinched the top position in the Social Protection category and outperformed competitors to secure second place in the Industrial Relations and Employee Engagement category at the prestigious 2024 Employer of the Year awards, presented by the Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM). These accolades underscore the Board’s commitment to fostering a healthy work environment that values its staff members.

At the recent ceremony, several individuals were honored for their exemplary contributions. CEO Duncan Chambamba was recognized for his Exceptional and Impactful Leadership, showcasing the vital role of strong leadership in enhancing workplace productivity. Recognizing long-serving employees, Andrew Kacheyo received an award for his unwavering dedication. Engineer Maxin Saulosi and Kirei Msusa were acknowledged for their Extraordinary Integrity, while Annie Phweya was celebrated as a Dedication Employee, demonstrating the diverse strengths and talents present within this organization.

Chambamba also took the opportunity to reinforce his commitment to cultivating a supportive work environment, implementing an open-door policy that promotes transparency and facilitates open communication. This inclusive approach is vital in ensuring that every employee feels valued and empowered.

The SRWB has not only been achieving recognition; it has also been registering impressive financial growth with revenues exceeding K17 billion last year. A testament to their ambition, the Board is set to commission a new water and bottling plant in Zomba later this year, which is expected to further enhance service delivery and create additional job opportunities in the region.

As the SRWB charts its path towards even greater success, the focus on both employee recognition and infrastructure development places it in an admirable position within Malawi’s utility sector. With a motivated workforce and strategic initiatives in place, the Southern Region Water Board is ready to take on new challenges and continue its commitment to providing quality water services to communities throughout the region.
