Transforming Education: Digital Libraries Set to Revolutionize Schools Across the Nation!

UBEC Champions Digital Libraries to Boost Education in Nigeria

In an exciting development for the educational landscape in Nigeria, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is taking significant strides towards creating digital libraries across basic education schools nationwide. This initiative is set to enhance the learning experience for both students and teachers, ultimately driving smarter education delivery in the country.

During a recent three-day training workshop on Digital Library and Educational Resource Management held at the UBEC Digital Resource Center in Abuja, Professor Bashir Galadanci, the national coordinator of UBEC’s Digital Resource Center (DRC), confirmed the commission’s unwavering commitment to this vision. “Digital libraries have revolutionized the way we access information, offering diverse media formats that include videos, games, and interactive simulations,” he said, emphasizing the fresh air this initiative brings to educational resources.

Dr. Hafsat L. Kontagora, head of Capacity Building at the UBEC DRC, welcomed participants and noted that the workshop was designed not just to enhance understanding of digital libraries but also to equip teachers and ICT personnel with hands-on skills. This focus on practical experience is crucial as it empowers educators to effectively organize and manage digital content. The overarching goal is to foster an environment that encourages positive teaching and learning outcomes.

Participants at the workshop included 26 educators—18 males and 8 females—who engaged in practical sessions covering local server setup, cataloguing digital resources, and navigating the expansive UBEC Digital Library. The focus on interactive learning was notable, as group activities promoted peer collaboration, allowing educators to share experiences and best practices for leveraging technology in education.

As digital resources continue to reshape traditional learning paradigms, this workshop represents a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s educational system. By embracing modern technologies, the UBEC is ensuring that teachers are well-prepared to engage students in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

This initiative is expected to play a transformative role in enhancing education across Nigeria, setting a benchmark for other countries in the region. With the establishment of digital libraries, the future of education in Nigeria looks more promising than ever, promoting a culture of lifelong learning and innovation.
