Oshakati's Bright Future: Mayor Hango Unveils Major Infrastructure Projects
In a move that promises to transform the city, Oshakati Mayor Leonard Hango recently emphasized the crucial role of infrastructure in fostering development during a groundbreaking ceremony for several key projects. These initiatives mark a significant milestone for Oshakati and reflect a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
The ceremony, held for the construction of a gravity sewer network and a water reticulation system in Oshakati North Extension 12 and Portion Extension 01, also saw plans for the upgrading of roads in NATIS, Extension 3 (NHE) to bitumen standards. With an overall investment of N.5 million, these projects are designed to cater to the needs of a growing population and improve essential services in the area.
“The backbone of any locality is its infrastructure,” Hango stated, highlighting the transformative power these developments could have on the community. The gravity sewer network and water system alone will cost N.2 million and will be constructed by S. Shikongo Construction and Renovations CC, ensuring local contractors play a vital role in the city’s growth. Windhoek Consulting Engineers will supervise the overarching engineering tasks.
The area set to benefit from the new developments includes a mix of residential plots, local businesses, and public spaces—all integral components of a thriving community. In fact, Extension 12 Oshakati North (Ehenye) will feature 221 residential plots, multiple business plots, urban agricultural plots, and areas designated for public open spaces.
Adding to this progress, the roadwork in NATIS, Extension 3 (NHE), estimated at N.3 million, involves upgrading existing roads and enhancing pedestrian pathways with paved sidewalks. Sash Trading & Earth Works CC will handle this upgrade, demonstrating the Council’s commitment to not only improve vehicle mobility but also enhance pedestrian access and stormwater management.
Mayor Hango articulated a vision of empowerment for the community, asserting that improved infrastructure goes hand-in-hand with economic stimulation and better service delivery. “These initiatives are part of our strategic plan to build a sustainable and prosperous Oshakati,” he explained. By investing in critical areas such as water management and road infrastructure, Oshakati is laying the groundwork for sustainable growth.
Hango urged residents to actively support these developments and take pride in the progress that is being made. “It’s our duty to safeguard this infrastructure, not just for ourselves, but for future generations as well,” he emphasized.
As Oshakati embarks on this transformational journey, it stands as a testament to the power of community investment in infrastructure, heralding a new chapter for its residents and setting a model for other cities across the region.
