Namibia Strengthens Immigration Infrastructure in the Zambezi Region: A Step Towards Enhanced Tourism and Service Delivery
In a promising move for Namibia’s tourism sector and regional development, Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Albert Kawana, recently unveiled upgraded immigration facilities in the picturesque Zambezi Region. During his visit to Impalila Island and Kasika in the Kabbe South Constituency, Kawana highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing infrastructure, an essential pillar for national growth and prosperity.
Accompanied by Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo, Minister Kawana inaugurated two new immigration offices—one in each location—alongside several staff housing units. Impalila Island now boasts four staff houses, while Kasika welcomes three, both equipped to facilitate the operations of immigration officials tasked with overseeing the influx of visitors to these beautiful locales.
These newly established facilities are strategically placed in high-traffic areas known for attracting tourists, which play an instrumental role in bolstering the local economy. The majestic landscapes, rich wildlife, and vibrant cultures of Impalila and Kasika have made them a magnet for both international and domestic travelers. By improving the immigration infrastructure, the government aims not only to streamline the entry process for tourists but also to promote the region as a key destination for adventure seekers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Looking ahead, plans are already in motion for an additional immigration facility at the Machenje border post—another busy junction that will further enhance cross-border travel between Namibia and Zambia, encouraging even more visitors to explore the scenic beauty and cultural richness in this part of Africa.
Minister Kawana emphasized the importance of courteous service, remarking that immigration officials represent the face of the nation. He encouraged these officials to uphold high standards of professionalism and maintain the facilities to ensure they meet the needs of future generations. “These facilities serve the Namibian nation, and it’s vital that they reflect our commitment to quality service,” he stated.
Kawana’s remarks underline that infrastructure development is not just about brick and mortar; it’s about fostering a welcoming environment that will support economic development and cultural exchange in Namibia and beyond.
As Namibia continues to build upon these foundations, the tourism sector can look forward to a brighter, more accessible future. This initiative marks an important chapter in Namibia’s growth story, celebrating its potential as a top-tier tourism destination.
