New Nigeria Ministers Embracing Collaboration for Renewed Hope Agenda
In an inspiring move for Nigeria’s governance, newly appointed ministers recently gathered for a two-day induction retreat in Abuja, where they received valuable insights and directives aimed at fostering collaboration and effective governance. Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, emphasized the importance of teamwork among the ministers, permanent secretaries, and key stakeholders as essential to realizing the ambitious goals outlined in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akume welcomed the ministers, congratulating them on their new roles and setting the tone for a forward-thinking approach to governance. He underscored that sustainable development can only be achieved through complementary efforts. “Your roles require close collaboration with your colleagues and other governmental agencies,” he stated. “Effective inter-ministerial cooperation will be crucial in addressing the multifaceted challenges we face, from economic recovery to social cohesion.”
Highlighting the core values of transparency, accountability, and excellence, Akume urged the ministers to act as custodians of public trust. He assured them that his office would provide necessary support while encouraging them to lead their ministries toward the successful formulation and implementation of government policies, programs, and projects.
Imparting wisdom from experience, Boss Mustapha, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reinforced the call for synergy between the ministers and the secretary’s office to ensure alignment with the government’s eight priority areas.
Didi Esther Walson-Jack, head of the Civil Service of the Federation, echoed this sentiment by urging the ministers to actively collaborate with permanent secretaries for successful implementation of their specific mandates. She also encouraged them to make the most of ongoing reforms in the Federal Civil Service, specifically the Federal Civil Service Strategy Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) 2021-2025.
Further enriching the retreat, Hadiza Bala Usman, the President’s special adviser on Policy and Coordination, highlighted the retreat as an opportunity for ministers to understand key Presidential priorities and to strengthen relations with stakeholders.
To wrap up the event, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, Director General of the Directorate of State Services, provided essential advice on handling sensitive governmental documents with discretion to ensure national security remains intact.
As these ministers embark on their new journeys, the commitment to collaboration and transparency promises a vibrant chapter in Nigeria’s political landscape, eager to tackle various national challenges and enhance the well-being of its citizens.
