Historic Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Hosts 93rd Southeastern Conference in Knoxville: A Celebration of Sisterhood and Empowerment!

Major Gathering of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Set for Knoxville in March 2025

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Get ready, Knoxville! The city is all set to roll out the red carpet as it prepares to host the 93rd South Eastern Regional Conference for the esteemed Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA), the first sorority founded by African American women in the United States. The conference is scheduled for March 13-16, 2025, and it’s expected to draw over 5,000 members from all corners of the country and beyond.

Founded in 1908 at Howard University in Washington, D.C., AKA is a pillar of sisterhood and service, comprising more than 300,000 members across 1,061 graduate and undergraduate chapters both nationally and internationally. From the Bahamas to South Africa, their influence spans continents, making AKA one of the oldest and most recognized Greek letter organizations for African American women.

The upcoming conference promises not only to fortify the bonds of sisterhood but also to significantly boost the local economy, with an anticipated impact of around million, according to AKA officials. This event presents a unique opportunity for both personal connection and economic engagement within the Knoxville community.

Tracey Morant Adams, the South Eastern Regional Director of AKA, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “With our regional conferences attracting thousands of our members to a local city annually, we have the opportunity to both conduct the business of Alpha Kappa Alpha and bolster the city’s economy. Every year during the conference, we select a local organization with a shared programmatic mission to receive a sizable donation, as well as host a series of impactful service initiatives.” This approach not only celebrates the sorority’s legacy but also amplifies its commitment to community service.

Conference attendees can look forward to a blend of business meetings, educational workshops, and community service projects that aim to benefit the local area. These initiatives are not just about gathering; they are an expression of the sorority’s mission to empower and uplift communities.

In partnership with Visit Knoxville, the sorority highlights its connection to the city, which is home to Arnetta G. Wallace, the sixth International President of AKA whose legacy of service continues to inspire generations. “We look forward to a successful conference where we will reconnect with our members and benefit the local community,” Adams added.

Most activities will take place at the Knoxville Convention Center, with additional events stretching throughout downtown Knoxville. This setup promises to bring a lively atmosphere filled with sisterhood, learning, and community engagement.

As the countdown to March 2025 begins, both locals and attendees alike can anticipate an event that merges history, culture, and service—true hallmarks of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Stay tuned for more updates as this wonderful gathering approaches!
