In a powerful call to action, Mrs. Stella George—renowned leadership and communications coach—encouraged women to embrace leadership roles as essential to national development. Speaking at the Women in Leadership and Entrepreneurship Conference (WOILEN 2024) on Thursday, held at the Maryam Babangida Centre for Women Development in Abuja, she emphasized the importance of empowered female leadership under the inspiring theme, “Empowered to Lead, Inspired to Succeed; Women Shaping the Future.”
The event saw an impressive turnout of aspiring women entrepreneurs, senior secondary school students, grassroots women, and dynamic change-makers eager to chart a new course for their lives and communities. Mrs. George passionately urged attendees not to see themselves as inferior to men when it comes to pursuing high-level positions, emphasizing that limiting beliefs hinder personal and professional growth.
“If you think you can, you will. Remove personal limitations for greater heights,” she advised. Moreover, her message extended beyond women, as she called on men, particularly husbands, to support their partners’ ambitions and contributions to society. This plea echoes broader societal needs for inclusivity and shared responsibility in fostering gender equality.
Joining Mrs. George on stage were notable figures who voiced their support for women’s empowerment. Former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Aisha Ismail, along with Dr. Dayo Benjamin from the FCTA, and Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir, Director-General of the Maryam Babangida Centre, praised the initiative, highlighting the pivotal role women play as agents of change in their communities.
The event also attracted key influencers from various sectors, including Mrs. Oiza Nicholson, Country Director of Palladium, and Mrs. Esther Onyezebe of the Misedi Empowerment Initiative for Africa. Their presence underscores a collective commitment to nurturing women’s leadership and entrepreneurship, reinforcing the message that when women thrive, society as a whole benefits.
As Mrs. George rightly pointed out, the future is bright for women in leadership. By dismantling barriers and fostering supportive environments, we can look forward to a future marked by equality, creativity, and innovation—where women’s voices lead the charge toward positive change.
