Surge in Trade Relations: Egypt and Saudi Arabia's Economic Partnership Grows Stronger
In a promising development for regional economies, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has reported a substantial increase in trade between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The figures reveal that the trade exchange soared to an impressive .5 billion in the first nine months of 2024, up from .6 billion during the same period in 2023—marking a robust growth of 33.9%. This surge highlights the strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
The announcement came as President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi participated in the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, showcasing the importance of diplomatic engagement amid rising trade metrics. As the agency closely monitors the president’s activities, these encouraging figures speak volumes about the growing symbiosis between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, two pivotal players in the Arab world.
Delving deeper into the statistics, CAPMAS indicated that Egyptian exports to Saudi Arabia reached .4 billion in the first nine months of 2024, a commendable increase of 26.3% compared to .9 billion the previous year. The key exports included copper and its products, which accounted for 9 million; vegetables and fruits at 3 million; as well as ready-made clothes, electrical appliances, and iron products adding significant value to the trade portfolio.
On the flip side, the volume of Egyptian imports from Saudi Arabia also saw a notable uptick, amounting to .1 billion, a significant rise of 37.8% from .7 billion in 2023. The major imports encompassed critical commodities like fuel, mineral oils, and their derivatives valued at .4 billion, along with plastics, organic chemicals, and aluminium products enriching Egypt’s market.
Additionally, while Saudi investments in Egypt reached 1.3 million during the first nine months of fiscal year 2023/2024, there was a dip from .3 billion in the same timeframe the previous year. Conversely, Egyptian investments in Saudi Arabia slightly decreased to 7.1 million from 0.1 million, indicating a space for potential growth and collaboration.
Remittances also play a vital role in this economic narrative. The remittances from Egyptians working in Saudi Arabia totaled .3 billion in fiscal year 2022/2023, although it was a decrease from billion in the prior year. Notably, there are approximately 1.1 million Egyptians residing in Saudi Arabia, contributing significantly to the economy of both nations through their labor and investments.
As trade relations continue to flourish, both countries stand to benefit immensely from this robust economic partnership, paving the way for a brighter future. The alignment of interests and resources can not only strengthen bilateral ties but also greatly contribute to the socio-economic development of both Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
