The Republic of Guinea recently served as the vibrant backdrop for the third edition of the Arab Poetry Forum, a remarkable event organized by the Cultural Affairs Administration within the Sharjah Culture Department in collaboration with the Doctorate Programme in Language and Civilisation at Lansana Conté University in Conakry. Held over two exciting days, this year’s forum attracted a remarkable gathering of 13 talented poets and creators who celebrated the beauty and significance of Arabic poetry.
Under the distinguished patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, this forum highlights ongoing cultural exchanges between the Arab world and the African continent. The event not only showcases poetic talent but also reinforces the Arabic language’s vital role in Africa’s rich tapestry of cultures.
Taking place in the elegantly adorned Jibril Tamsir Mian hall at Lansana Conté University, the forum drew an impressive audience, including the university president, Professor Manga Keita; Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Mamadou Yahya Sow; and representatives from various Arab diplomatic missions, along with enthusiastic students and poetry enthusiasts.
Professor Imran Kaba, who adeptly managed the opening segments, warmly welcomed attendees and articulated the forum’s significance, stating, “This gathering represents a cultural bridge between Africa and the Arab countries.” Such sentiments underline the forum’s importance as a platform for fostering unity and appreciation between these two regions.
Kaba noted that the forum has grown impressively over its three editions, calling it evidence of the increased involvement and enthusiasm surrounding Arabic literature in Africa. As he emphasized, “The forum has strengthened the Arabic language in African communities, reinstating its vital presence.”
University President Manga Keita also expressed deep appreciation for the cultural initiatives led by Sharjah, acknowledging the tangible impact of these efforts reflected through the Arab Poetry Forum in Guinea. This platform has not only nurtured creative expression but has also showcased the remarkable talent thriving within Arabic literature in Africa.
This celebration of poetry is more than just an artistic expression; it stands as a testament to the enduring connection between cultures, enriching both Arabic literature and the African heritage.
