Gettysburg College Launches New Guided Pathways Fund: A Boost for Experiential Learning
Gettysburg College is stepping up its commitment to experiential learning with the introduction of the Guided Pathways Fund, a new initiative designed to support students embarking on enriching, hands-on learning experiences. This fund is part of the Gettysburg Approach, a comprehensive educational strategy aimed at helping students navigate their academic and professional journeys with confidence and purpose.
Students participating in the Guided Pathways program can submit applications for funding through engageGettysburg, with two annual deadlines on October 15 and April 15. This allows students to apply at their convenience, knowing applications will be reviewed twice a year. Those selected for funding can expect to hear back by November 1 and April 25, respectively.
Jim Duffy, Assistant Vice President for Co-Curricular Education at Gettysburg, highlighted the transformative power of experiential learning. “Students who engage in real-world experiences gain invaluable insights through interactions and practical application of their studies,” he explained. This emphasis on learning beyond the classroom is central to the college’s mission.
The Guided Pathways Fund was developed by a dedicated team of college administrators and staff who researched successful funding models at other institutions and leveraged their expertise to create a streamlined application process. This innovative approach encourages students to connect their learning experiences to their broader academic and career aspirations.
But what does this mean for students? The Guided Pathways Fund opens doors to an array of experiences that align with students’ academic interests, career goals, and personal passions. Take, for instance, Meriem Hamioui, a double major in international political economy and international affairs. With the help of this funding, she interned with the American Task Force on Lebanon in Washington, D.C., where she honed her research skills and took part in vital projects that informed U.S. policymakers on key issues related to Lebanon.
“The opportunity to co-author an op-ed with a former U.S. ambassador was a highlight of my internship,” Meriem said, reflecting on how this experience deepened her understanding of international diplomacy. “I’m forever grateful for the insights I gained.”
The Guided Pathways Fund reflects Gettysburg College’s enduring commitment to enhancing the student experience through hands-on learning opportunities. Contributions from generous donors have made this initiative possible, showcasing a community that believes in the potential of experiential education.
Students interested in exploring funding opportunities through the Guided Pathways Fund can apply now via the engageGettysburg application link. With this new initiative, Gettysburg College is setting a high standard for student support, empowering its scholars to flourish both during their studies and in their future endeavors.
