Public holiday in Ivory Coast ahead of Nigeria’s game

The Ivorian government has declared today 18th January a public holiday in Ivory Coast ahead of their crucial clash with Nigeria in their 2023 AFCON group A game at Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara.

The Alassane Ouattara Stadium can accommodate over 60,000 fans, and for sure, at least 50,000 of those fans will be Ivorian fans, as tickets for the game had already been sold out days before the tournament started.

The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria later today by 6 pm in their second game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The game is expected to be a tough one.

Nigeria takes on Cote d’Ivoire in their second game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Because of the kind of quality players that both countries possess, the game is expected to be a tough one but the Elephants are the slight favorites because of Nigeria’s poor form recently.

A win for the host would see them qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament while the Eagles require a win to keep hopes of going further in the competition alive.

Nigeria started the tournament on a not-too-impressive note, drawing 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea, while Ivory Coast who are the host of the tournament got off to a flying start with a 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau.

Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire have met six times in the AFCON, with two wins for each country and two draws.
