Margarida Adamugi Talapa, Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, urged Angolan President João Lourenço to leverage his influence to address Brazil’s disengagement from the CPLP. Brazil’s lack of participation in recent conferences is troubling, as it is a founding member of the organization.
Concerns Over Brazil’s Disengagement from CPLP
Talapa highlighted that Brazil’s absence is one of the primary concerns for the CPLP, emphasizing the need for unity among Portuguese-speaking countries. She noted that Brazil’s participation is crucial for discussing shared challenges, particularly in achieving economic independence.
Moreover, Talapa pointed out that Guinea-Bissau has also been absent for three consecutive sessions due to an ongoing institutional crisis. This situation further complicates the dynamics within the Lusophone community.

During the meeting, President João Lourenço acknowledged the concerns raised by the parliamentary leaders. He committed to addressing Brazil’s participation at the upcoming CPLP Heads of State summit, aiming to find a solution for its return to the assembly’s activities.
Lourenço’s leadership in hosting the 15th Plenary Session was also praised, as it provided a platform for member states to express their concerns and seek political support.
