Percy Tau and Hugo Broos promise something special

In their opening AFCON encounter, Bafana Bafana are set to face Mali on Tuesday night and coach Hugo Broos and Percy Tau promise something special.

Tau joined coach Broos in a pre-match press conference and the Bafana duo says they are eager to get their AFCON campaign underway on a high note.

Bafana will face the Eagles of Mali at Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium on Tuesday night in Cote d’Ivoire and Broos says their preparations are on the right track.

HUGO BROOS AND PERCY TAU PROMISE SOMETHING SPECIAL VS. MALI

Looking at the previous matches between Mali and Bafana, the West Africans emerged as victors but Broos and Tau have a special promise for the fans.

Despite the past records going in favour of Mali, Bafana boss Broos looks at the importance of making a perfect start in the tournament.

“We are looking forward to playing. We are aware that we have a tough opponent with Mali,” Broos tells the media.

“On the other hand, we believe in our chances and I hope that we will achieve our best level so we can win the game because it is very important for a tournament like this that we can start with a victory.

“You know when you’ve won it (Africa Cup of Nations), once you win it, you want to win it twice. It’s a fantastic feeling. I’ve said it before.

“It was a fantastic experience six years ago [with Cameroon] and you can be sure that I dream of it. To do it the second time [with Bafana Bafana], saying is much easier than doing it.”

TAU ON THE AFCON OPENER VERSUS MALI

The Bafana and Al Ahly hitman, Tau adds that this will not be an easy encounter but they have planned something special for their opponents, Mali.

“Most of the players are used to travelling and playing outside the country, we have handled everything quite well and we are looking forward to the game,” Tau adds.

“The pitch is great. We saw it in the morning [yesterday]. We are playing against a difficult side.

“Our group is difficult. We have Namibia and Tunisia, so we are looking forward to those matches.

’We do believe in ourselves. We are not overconfident. We are grounded, but that does not take away that we believe we can do something special. We want to do something special, that’s the bottom line.”
